*** Founded January 26, 1838
*** County Seat- Blountstown
*** Named for John C. Calhoun
   ...member of U.S. Senate from South Carolina
   ...the 7th U.S. vice president under John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson.

Residents here are said in Wikipedia to remain attached to "Southern culture and lifestyle habits."

In 1930 a "federal" agent shot the County Sheriff.

The Apalachicola River is on the east side of the county.
The county is bisected by the Chipola River.

NO interstate or U.S. highways in this county. Only state roads.

Sightseeing travelers should check out Cayson Mound and Village Site...and the Old Calhoun County Courthouse while here.

The county seat Blountstown was named for John Blount...
   ...a Creek Indian Chief who served as a guide for General Andrew Jackson during his 1818 invasion of Spanish Florida. This invasion caused the United States to buy Florida from Spain. The territory became a part of the U.S. in 1821.
